City of Onalaska Government

The Onalaska Common Council meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers.

The Common Council is the legislative branch of City Government. Its primary business is the passage of laws in the form of ordinances or resolutions, to fix the salaries of all officers and employees of the City, and be charged with the official management of the City's financial affairs, its budget, its revenues and the raising of funds necessary for the operation of the City.

The Common Council is comprised of two Alderpersons from each of the City's three Aldermanic Districts.  District 1 is made up of Wards 1-5, District 2 is made up of Wards 6-10 and District 3 is made up of Wards 11-15.  One seat in each aldermanic district is up for election each year.  The alderpersons serve a two year term.

Most of the other City committees and commissions meet at City Hall, but please check our meeting calendar on the homepage of the City's website or call (608) 781-9530 to confirm the exact location and room number.
