Serving over 31 years in the Army, Steve retired in 2016 as an Infantry Colonel. After thirteen previous moves, he and his family determined that Onalaska would become their permanent home. Steve volunteered for several years as a member of the Parks, Recreation and Library Board, and as a member of the Plan Commission. In January 2020, he was appointed by interim Mayor Kim Smith to serve the remaining 15 months of Boondi Iyer's Alderperson term after her departure. Steve served his nation in peacetime and at war with leadership positions at platoon, company, battalion, and brigade level organizations. He has a strong background in strategic planning, having served on multiple senior staffs, including at the Pentagon within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Manpower and Reserve Affairs. He has six years of city management experience while commanding two US Army Garrisons - Fort Devens, MA and Fort McCoy, WI. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, a Masters of Secondary Education Degree from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, and a Masters of Strategic Studies Degree from the United States Army War College. Steve currently works part time as the Liturgy Planner and Ministry Coordinator at St. Patrick Parish.
