Plea Definitions

A plea of guilty means you are admitting guilt to the charge(s) you were ticketed for.  You will be found guilty and the penalty provided by law will be imposed.

A plea of no contest is similar to a plea of guilty and will be treated the same.  However, you will not be admitting your civil liability for use in other litigation, which should be expected where personal injury or property damage is involved.

A plea of not guilty means you are disputing the charges and wish to have a Pre-Trial Conference with the City Attorney to discuss the matter.  The pre-trial conference may result in you or the City Attorney setting the matter for Trial.   The Municipal Court is not a criminal court and, therefore, does not provide court-appointed attorneys.  If you wish to retain an attorney, that will be your responsibility.
