Are spaces in Summer Explorers Day Camp limited? 

o    Yes. In order to best serve our campers, we have at set number of 38 spaces available each week for summer camp. If the specific week of camp you are registering for is full, we will add you to the waiting list. You will be notified if a space becomes available. 

 

When will registration for Summer Explorers Day Camp open? 

o    Registration for all 12 weeks of Summer Explorers Day Camp will be available Monday, March 4th, 2024. Registration can be completed online through our RecDesk Registration system, or in person at the Onalaska Parks and Recreation office. Registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be held without payment. 

 

Who can register for Summer Explorers Day Camp?

o    Summer Explorers day camp is a day camp for adventurous children ages 5 to 10. Your child(ren) must be at least 5 years of age at the time of registration, and no older than 10 years of age during camp. 

 

How much does Summer Explorers Day Camp cost? 

  • Summer Explorers Day Camp will charge $145 per child, per week. 

 

How do I register for a spot in camp? 

o    You may register for camp online by clicking here or in person by downloading the paper registration forms which can be found in the link at the bottom of the main Summer Explorers page. Complete these paper documents and bring them along with your payment to the Parks & Recreation office using cash, check or card (Visa, Mastercard & Discover are accepted). 

 

How many weeks of camp can I enroll my camper in? 

  • Registration for all 12 weeks of camp will open on March 4, 2024. You may choose to enroll your camper in as few as one week of camp or as many as all 12 weeks of camp. You may choose to register as you go, though we cannot guarantee availability for any given week of camp. 

 

When are payments due? 

o    Payments are due at the time of your registration. If you wish to sign up for multiple weeks of camp and require a payment plan, you must register in person at the Onalaska Parks & Recreation office. 

 

What times does camp run each day? 

o    Scheduled camp activities run from 8:30am to 4:30pm daily however campers can be dropped off as early as 7:30am and all campers must be picked up by 5:30pm. We may give specific instructions for drop-off/pick-up on field trip days, which may require all campers to be present by a certain time in order to ensure a timely departure for our planned destination. 

 

What does a typical day at camp look like?* 

7:30 – 8:30am: Drop Off and Morning Activities

8:00 – 8:30am: Morning Assembly/Group Gathering

8:30 – 11:30am: Planned Activities

11:30 – 12:30pm: Clean up and Lunch

12:30 – 1:00pm: Playground Free Play

1:00pm – 4:00pm: Planned Activities

4:00pm – 4:30pm: Afternoon Assembly

4:30pm – 5:30 pm: Pick-Up and Evening Activities

*Please note this is an example schedule and each day at camp may look different based on the theme for the week. Additionally, we will spend time exploring the Omni Center, the Onalaska Aquatic Center, various local parks and occasionally taking field trips. 

 

How will I receive the most updated information about camp? 

o    We encourage you to keep a close watch on the email that you use to register your camper(s) for Summer Explorers as this will be our primary method of communication throughout the summer. Additionally, follow the City of Onalaska Park and Rec on Facebook where we will post updates as they develop or reach out directly to parkrecinfo@onalaskawi.gov with any specific questions, comments, or concerns.
